CEO John Thompson will leave Symantec

Symantec Corp. Chief Executive John Thompson, who has led the security software maker through a trying period of expansion, will retire by the end of the company’s fiscal year, the company said late Monday.

Enrique Salem, the current chief operating officer, will take over as president and chief executive officer of the security, storage, and systems management software maker, and Thompson will remain chairman of the board.
